OELMEK: Staffing Shortages Plague 1 in 4 Schools

OELMEK (Cyprus Greek Secondary School Teachers' Organisation) warns of problems in schools due to administrative understaffing. According to OELMEK President Dimitris Taliadoros, approximately 25% of schools are facing staff shortages.
In statements to the Cyprus News Agency (CYPE), Mr. Taliadoros stated that there are approximately 90 Assistant Principals A' and Assistant Principals seconded to positions unrelated to their teaching duties. He also referred to problems with the transfers of secretarial staff.
OELMEK meets with the Minister of Education, Athena Michaelidou, on Tuesday, September 2nd, to discuss the new teacher evaluation plan. Mr. Taliadoros expressed concerns about the delayed recruitment of teachers, which is taking place shortly before the start of the school year.
Mr. Taliadoros wished students and teachers a good school year, emphasizing the professionalism and diligence of the teachers.
