OKYPY: Reactions Justified Regarding Drilling at Makario Hospital

OKYPY has issued a statement regarding complaints from parents of children being treated in the pediatric oncology ward of Makario Hospital. The parents are protesting the disruptive construction work.
The statement says that the reactions of the children and their parents are justified due to the work on the floor above the pediatric oncology ward, specifically in the pediatric surgery room.
During the demolition, there were minor water leaks in the pediatric oncology ward due to the age of the switches. In addition, there was increased noise during trenching work for sewage pipes.
According to the contractor, the sewage trenching work will be completed by 12/13/2026, reducing the noise.
OKYPY has taken the following measures: heavy work after 8:00 a.m. and stopping between 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., no heavy work on weekends. Water quality was checked and central water filters were installed.
In addition to monthly site meetings, there will be a weekly on-site meeting and daily supervision by an engineer.
