The Federation of Environmental Organizations of Cyprus (OPOK) has expressed its regret regarding the handling of the parliamentary session on the devastating wildfires in Limassol. In a statement, OPOK called on the Parliament and the Government to ensure transparency and accountability regarding the causes and responsibilities for the fire.

OPOK stated that there was insufficient input from the responsible state bodies and that significant time was spent on discussions that did not allow for in-depth investigation. Furthermore, environmental organizations were unable to present their views.

OPOK hopes that all stakeholders will be given the opportunity to speak at the next session, with the aim of preventing and effectively managing similar crises in the future. The Federation calls on the Parliament and the Government to strengthen the participation of environmental organizations in decision-making and to proceed with policies for crisis prevention and management.
