NGO: Peyeia Event Sets Dangerous Precedent for Cyprus Protected Areas

The Federation of Environmental Organizations of Cyprus (NGO) has expressed concerns about a recent outdoor event with intense lighting and sound in the Agios Georgios Peyeias area, describing it as a dangerous precedent for Cyprus' protected areas.

According to the NGO, the event, which included intense lighting and sound, took place without the necessary permits, constituting a serious violation of the institutional protection framework.

The NGO emphasizes that events in areas with high ecological value must undergo a Special Ecological Assessment to prevent any degradation of ecosystems.

The federation calls on the competent authorities to investigate responsibilities and take legal measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents, as well as on the Akamas Municipality to respect environmental legislation.
