OPOK: Zero Accountability for Limassol Mountain Fires

The Federation of Environmental Organizations of Cyprus (OPOK) stated in a statement that fires "are not extinguished with wishful thinking," stressing that in the fire in mountainous Limassol "two human lives were lost and there is zero accountability."

OPOK adds that "in Parliament, instead of hearing courageous admissions and action plans for radical changes, we watched once again an unacceptable performance of self-congratulation and empty promises."

OPOK concludes that the handling of the recent devastating fires "was yet another proof of the chronic inadequacy and inaction of the state mechanism."
