Paphos: Elections for New Metropolitan Bishop in Early 2026 – Potential Candidates

The Church of Cyprus is preparing for the election of a new Metropolitan Bishop of Paphos, following the removal of Tychikos. The Holy Synod is expected to determine the process soon, with elections scheduled for early 2026.
Theologian Theodoros Kyriakou, speaking to RIK, emphasized the importance of a regular ballot with the names of candidates, instead of a simple blank paper, to avoid tensions.
Potential contenders include Bishops Christoforos of Karpasia and Nikolaos of Amathountos, and possibly Gregorios of Mesaoria. Archimandrite Ioannis Ioannou, Protosyncellus of the Holy Archdiocese, is also expected to be a candidate. Mr. Kyriakou did not rule out the possibility of other candidacies.
