Paphos: Mobile Desalination Unit Operational in Potima

The mobile desalination unit in the Potima area of Paphos has become operational today, Monday, with the aim of providing potable water. The temporary unit is expected to initially produce 2,000 cubic meters of water per day, and when fully operational within a few weeks, production will exceed 10,000 cubic meters per day.
The president of EOA Paphos, Charalambos Pittokopitis, expressed his satisfaction with the timely operation of the unit, emphasizing its importance in addressing the region's water problem. He also thanked the company that undertook the project, the Water Development Department, the Ministry of Agriculture, and Minister Maria Panagiotou.
The unit has already been connected to the water supply of the Pegeia and Kissonerga apartments in D. Akama. The operation of other mobile desalination units is expected within September and October.
Regarding allegations of water theft by farmers, Mr. Pittokopitis stated that the information is being investigated and instructions have been given to stop the illegal supply and report it to the Police.
The District Engineer of TAY Paphos, Haris Kasioulis, stressed the difficulty of the period due to the negligible inflows into the dams and appealed for a reduction in water wastage. Regarding the Mavrokolybos dam, studies for its restoration have been completed and it is estimated that September will be the month of implementation.
