Over 700 Schools in Cyprus Ready for New Academic Year

Over 700 schools of all levels are expected to operate in September, as preparations continue for the start of the new academic year 2025-2026.
In primary education, 611 schools will operate with 7,557 teachers and 65,924 students, of which 8,983 are in the first grade. In secondary general education, 108 schools will operate with 7,117 teachers and 42,111 students. Secondary Technical and Vocational Education and Training will include 11 schools, 803 teachers and 5,087 students.
The Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Athena Michaelidou, is expected to hold a press conference next Friday. All teachers will report on September 1, 2025, while secondary school students will report on September 5 and primary school students on September 8.
According to the Minister, staffing is 98% complete. The installation of air conditioners in schools is also continuing. Meanwhile, the issue of teacher evaluation remains pending, with meetings scheduled with educational organizations.
