Donations for Fire Victims Exceed €1.2 Million

Donations, in some cases exceeding €100,000, have been deposited into the special account opened at the Central Bank to support fire victims. As of July 30, the total amount reached approximately €1.2 million, according to the Accountant General Andreas Antoniadis, speaking to CNA.
Mr. Antoniadis emphasized that the goal is not to collect a large amount, but to satisfy the public's need to donate money for a good cause. The donations will not be used to cover state plans, but for a separate purpose related to the tragedy and the fire victims. The decision on how to utilize the donations will be made by the Council of Ministers.
The Accountant General assured that there will be full transparency and accountability, with an analysis of the donations in categories of amounts and publication of the largest donation. Once the payment of donations is completed, the purpose and sub-purposes for which the total amount was allocated by the Government will be presented transparently.
