Illegal dump sites pose a significant fire risk, especially during the summer months. According to the Department of Environment, there are at least 450 such sites across Cyprus.

Andreas Kettis, spokesperson for the Fire Service, emphasized that a fire in a dump site can easily spread and threaten entire communities. He appealed to local authorities and stakeholders to take action to clean up these areas.

Giorgos Constantinou, spokesperson for the Department of Forests, agreed that Cyprus is filled with dump sites, which are a cause of fires. He reiterated the recommendations to the public to be especially careful and avoid activities that could cause a fire.

Mr. Kettis also referred to the fires in the mountainous areas of Lemesos and Pafos, noting that some of them are not normal due to their time and location.
