Patras: Peletidis-Kefalogiannis Clash Over Fires

A heated dispute has erupted between the Mayor of Patras, Kostas Peletidis, and the Minister for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Giannis Kefalogiannis, regarding the recent fires in the region.

The Municipality of Patras responded to statements by Giannis Kefalogiannis concerning the municipality's handling of the fires, citing inadequate planning and a lack of resources on the part of the government. The municipality also claimed that workers fought bravely to save the city, while firefighting resources were non-existent.

In its announcement, the Municipality of Patras stated that it responded to every call from the Fire Department and that machinery and water trucks were present at every point in the city where needed. At the same time, it expressed its opposition to the practice of evacuating areas without a plan to protect residents' property.

The Mayor of Patras argued that the government has degraded the 112 emergency number system and that its policy focuses on saving wealth rather than people.
