Peyia: Investigation into Event at Agios Georgios – Warning of Measures

The Department of Environment is investigating an event held in Agios Georgios, Peyia, last Saturday. The Director of the Department, Dr. Christodoulos Mesimeris, told CYPRUS NEWS AGENCY that if a violation of the legislation is found, measures will be taken in cooperation with the Legal Service.

Following a meeting at the Department of Agriculture and a visit to the site, it was found that the platform had been removed. The event organized by the Municipality of Akamas on Friday will take place at another location. Mr. Mesimeris called on the Municipalities and local authorities to comply with the instructions of the competent services.

Mr. Mesimeris stated that the recommendations of the Department of Environment were not followed for Saturday's event, as a letter had been sent to the D. Akamas to cancel the event at that location. He stressed that there are several cases of non-compliance with the legislation and that the measures provided for are followed, such as reports, indictments and out-of-court settlements.

In conclusion, Mr. Mesimeris stressed the need to comply with the legislation and ruled out tolerance.
