Restrictions in Geri and Idalion due to Foot-and-Mouth Disease

Restrictions have been imposed in the areas of Geri and Idalion within a radius of three and ten kilometers, according to statements by the Press Officer of the Veterinary Services, Sotiria Georgiadou, to CYBC. The measures are being taken following the detection of cases of foot-and-mouth disease in these specific areas.
Ms. Georgiadou stated that no new cases have been reported and that laboratory analysis results are awaited. At the same time, she appealed for compliance, calmness, and cooperation.
According to Ms. Georgiadou, with the assistance of the Police, the area of Geri and Dali has been cordoned off at distances of 3 and 10 kilometers. Spraying, sampling, tracing, and vaccinations are being carried out.
Regarding vaccinations, coverage in cattle amounts to 82.67% and in sheep and goats to 45.74% on a nationwide scale.
Ms. Georgiadou expressed concern about the spread of the disease and stressed the need to adhere to all measures. She pointed out that the Veterinary Services had warned about limiting the disease to Larnaca and paying attention to movements.
"We are awaiting further laboratory analyzes to see how the situation will develop," she concluded.
