Mobile Desalination Units Launch Operation in Moni, Cyprus
Share on:

The gradual operation of 13 mobile desalination units in the Moni area is commencing, with the first unit expected to be operational on Tuesday, according to the Deputy Director of TAY, Giorgos Kazantzis.

Final tests have been underway since Monday. Mr. Kazantzis stated that crews and technicians from the UAE are on site to oversee the start of operations.

The produced water will not be used for the needs of Limassol, but will be transferred to the southern pipeline and channeled to the Districts of Nicosia, Larnaca, and Famagusta, reducing the supply from the Kouris dam to these areas. If needed, desalinated water can also be transferred to Limassol.

Mr. Kazantzis described the installation of the units as a "highly complex process" that was completed in a short period, with the cooperation of TAY, the contractor, and the EAC.

Additionally, boreholes have been put into operation at Kouris, with the produced water being received by the EOA Limassol.
