Progress on "kτίΖΩ" Project: First Refugee Apartment Buildings and Legal Developments
Share on:

Developments are expected in the coming months regarding the "kτίΖΩ" project implemented by the Ministry of Interior. The first apartment building is expected to be delivered in the first quarter, and the second in the first half of the year. Simultaneously, reconstruction continues on three other apartment buildings.

The Nicosia District Self-Government Organization has taken legal action against two tenants who refuse to leave their apartments in a condemned apartment building in the municipality of Strovolos.

The "kτίΖΩ" project, announced 2.5 years ago by the Minister of Interior, Konstantinos Ioannou, concerns 43 refugee apartment buildings that had been declared dangerous. Specifically, it aims to demolish and rebuild 20 immediately condemned apartment buildings. Most tenants responded to the project, receiving rent allowance or a lump sum.

In Latsia, the first apartment building is expected to be delivered within the first quarter of 2026. This is the apartment building in the Apostolos Andreas government settlement, the construction of which began in November 2024. Another apartment building is expected to be delivered in Strovolos, in the Kokkines settlement, within the first half of the new year. In addition, apartment buildings are being built in Platy, Anthoupoli and Latsia.

The refusal of two tenants in Strovolos to leave their apartments has caused delays and a change in the initial planning of the Ministry of Interior. The Nicosia District Self-Government Organization has taken legal action against them. The delay has caused problems for the remaining tenants and the residents of the area.
