Limassol Fire: Damage to 4,353 Land Parcels and 1,712 Vineyards

The recent fire in the Limassol region has had a significant impact, with extensive damage to agricultural land and livestock units. According to the Commissioner of the Cyprus Agricultural Payments Organisation, Andreas Kyprianou, 4,353 unique land parcels, corresponding to 13,667 decares, were burned. Additionally, 1,712 vineyards were destroyed.

Mr. Kyprianou stated that livestock units with a capacity of 14,500 animals operate in the area. Approximately 100 animals died in the affected units.

The damages also include 5,215 decares of vineyards, 5,150 decares of arable land, 1,730 decares of tree crops, and 523 decares of pasture. In total, approximately 1,000 applicants will be affected and will receive support from KOAP.

There are 14 livestock farms in the burned area. The government is expected to announce support programs of €30 million for the agricultural sector, which will include funds from the agricultural development investment program of €67 million.
