Limassol Fire: Damage to 8 Ancient Monuments

The recent fire in mountainous Limassol has caused damage to eight ancient monuments, according to the Deputy Minister of Culture, Vasiliki Kassianidou.

Ms. Kassianidou stated that she will visit the affected areas tomorrow with a team from the Department of Antiquities to assess the damage and take measures.

The damage concerns the watermill in the Kapsalia area of Kissousa, the medieval bridge in the Eliomylos area of Potamiou, the ruins of the early Christian period in the Chiliantris area, the ruins of the church of Agios Stylianos, the Byzantine building complex in the Aspri Moutti area, the ruins of the church of Agios Sialloumis, as well as the ruins of two other churches in the Souni-Zanatzia community.

A team from the Department of Antiquities has already visited the area three times to check the damage.
