Fire in Malia, Limassol: Evacuations and Road Closures

A major fire is raging in the community of Malia, in the Limassol province. Due to the intense heatwave, conditions are extremely difficult. The Police have closed the roads Malia – Omodos and Malia – Arsos.

Reportedly, houses are being evacuated, and some have already been affected by the flames. Strong firefighting forces are operating in the area, supported by aircraft, including one from the British Bases. Volunteer teams and the Civil Defense are also assisting.

Fire Service spokesperson Andreas Kettis stated that the IKAROS II plan has been activated.
