Fire in Malia: Suspicion of Malicious Acts

The President of the Arsos Community Council, Giannakis Giannaki, expressed suspicions of malicious acts behind the fire near the community of Malia. Speaking to ΚΥΠΕ, he mentioned that fires had occurred in the previous days.
Specifically, the most recent outbreak was detected last Sunday, and according to Mr. Giannaki, the risk was underestimated. He referred to the efforts to prevent the fire from spreading to Arsos, emphasizing that the village was left without state support from 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Aerial firefighting means were operating, which withdrew despite Mr. Giannaki's objections. After the withdrawal, there were resurgences in two phases. This morning, the presence of firefighting forces increased. The fire mainly burned wild vegetation, and the community remained without electricity until noon.
