Fire in Nicosia District: Property Damage, Houses Protected

A fire is in progress in the Pedieos riverbed, between the communities of Anageia and Deftera, in the Nicosia district. The flames are burning wild vegetation, trees, reeds, and immobilized vehicles.
According to Fire Service spokesperson Andreas Kettis, the fire developed near residences, which were protected by firefighters. However, properties were affected; the extent of the damage will be assessed after the fire is extinguished.
So far, it is estimated that approximately three hectares of land have been burned. Eight fire engines from the Fire Service, six vehicles from the Department of Forests, the SupportCy volunteer team, and two firefighting aircraft are participating in the extinguishing efforts.
The causes of the fire will be investigated after it is fully extinguished.
