Mayors of Paphos and Lefkoniko Suspended – Investigations Underway

The Mayor of Paphos, Phaedon Phaedonos, and the Mayor of Lefkoniko, Pieris Gypsiotis, are suspended from their duties starting today, according to an announcement by the Ministry of Interior. This decision is pending the completion of investigations and the adjudication of cases concerning them.

The relevant notification will be published in an extraordinary edition of the Official Gazette of the Republic.

Reportedly, Mr. Phaedonos went to the Paphos City Hall to collect personal belongings but did not hand over his office keys. The Deputy Mayor of Paphos, Angelos Onisiforou, is taking over the leadership of the Municipality.

The Minister of Interior, Constantinos Ioannou, was expected to return and approve the notification.

Police investigations continue regarding the allegations against the Mayor of Paphos. The Press Spokesperson of the Police Headquarters, Vyronas Vyronos, stated that statements have been taken and the data are being evaluated.

The Mayor of Paphos faces investigations for allegedly assaulting his wife and for a rape allegation. The Mayor of Lefkoniko faces charges of domestic violence.
