Six Desalination Units Operational in Moni, Cyprus

Six of the 13 mobile desalination units in Moni have been put into operation, with the aim of having all of them running by the end of the week, according to the Deputy Director of the Water Development Department, Giorgos Kazantzis.
The activation is delayed due to problems faced by technicians from the United Arab Emirates. Currently, six units are operating permanently and two are in trial operation. Each unit produces approximately 1,000 cubic meters of water per day, which is channeled to the southern pipeline for the districts of Nicosia, Larnaca, and Famagusta.
Mr. Kazantzis reminded that the use of desalinated water will save water from the Kouris Dam for Limassol. Regarding Paphos, one unit is operating on a trial basis and is expected to be connected to the grid soon, while the other will begin testing on Monday. The larger units are expected to operate in September.
The Water Development Department is also assisting the fire-stricken areas of mountainous Limassol, despite damage to the pipelines. It is noted that Giorgos Kazantzis is leaving his post and Elena Foinikaridou is taking over.
