Fires in Mountainous Limassol Under Control

The Chief Fire Officer of the Fire Service, Nikos Logginos, stated that the situation with the fires in mountainous Limassol is very good, despite the small flare-ups that occurred last night. The fire has been contained, but forces remain on alert due to high temperatures and low humidity.
26 Forest Commandos from Greece arrived in Cyprus through the European Civil Protection Mechanism and will assist in the flare-ups. Mr. Logginos emphasized that all volunteers and members of the Fire Service will be used.
Answering a question, Mr. Logginos mentioned that the Fire Service arrived at the fire site in 6 minutes and that the best possible effort was made with the available data. He acknowledged that there is room for improvement and that a self-assessment will be carried out.
The dispatch of ground forces from Greece was carried out at the request of the Cypriot government to the European Emergency Response Coordination Centre.
