Earthquake in Trikomo: Concerns over Densely Populated Area

An earthquake of magnitude 2.7 on the Richter scale occurred at 20:19 on Wednesday in the region of occupied Trikomo, according to the website of the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD).
The website Kıbrıs Postası reports that the earthquake's focal depth was 56.64 kilometers.
Onur Olguner, president of the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Architects, expressed concern that the earthquake, although small, was recorded in the most densely populated area in the occupied territories.
Olguner emphasized the need for building inspections and disaster preparedness, as well as the immediate implementation of the "law" to upgrade buildings constructed before 1999.
He also proposed a rapid renovation of "public buildings" and the enactment of a "law" on building material standards.
