Spetses: Reactions to the lighting project on the perimeter road

Strong reactions have been provoked in Spetses regarding the lighting project on the perimeter road, with a budget of 2.8 million euros, funded by the Recovery Fund.

Residents and organizations question the necessity of the project, which involves the installation of 600 metal lighting poles, 9 meters high, on a 16-kilometer road.

The Anargyrios Korgialenios School of Spetses has opposed the implementation of the project, arguing that it alters the character of the landscape. An online platform has also been created to collect signatures requesting the termination of the project.

The Ministry of Culture had suspended the works and referred the matter to the Central Council of Modern Monuments, which gave its opinion in favor of not approving the project.

The municipal authority argues that the cancellation of the project could cause financial damage to the municipality.
