Meeting at Ministry of Agriculture Regarding Compensation for Fire-Affected Farmers in Limassol

A meeting is being held at the Ministry of Agriculture regarding compensation for farmers in Limassol affected by the recent fires. The Department of Agriculture is immediately starting to record damages to crops in 28 communities. The Head of the Branch, Savas Hatzimichail, stated that the goal is to pay compensation faster.
The Minister of Agriculture, Maria Panagiotou, convened a meeting to determine the details of the damage recording and assessment process. Flexible procedures are being examined to speed up compensation. The damage recording will be completed in 15 days, with inspectors and assessors working daily.
A recall of staff leave has been made to cover the needs. The affected communities have been impacted to varying degrees. The Department of Agriculture will accept applications from farmers, with the final determination of the areas resulting from satellite mapping.
The fire burned over 125 square kilometers, mainly vineyard crops. It is estimated that 15,000 decares of wine-making crops have been affected. Compensation relates to the raw material, the grapes, and not the wine.
