Doughty Meets Ayia Napa Mayor on Security Concerns

UK Foreign Office Minister Steven Doughty met with the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Christos Zannettou, at the British Bases of Dhekelia to discuss security issues and the impact on tourism.
According to a municipal announcement, discussions focused on the repercussions of recent regional developments and the drone incident at Akrotiri. Mr. Doughty assured that Cyprus remains a safe destination and that travel advisories have not changed.
Christos Zannettou presented data indicating a slowdown in tourist bookings, emphasizing the economic impact. He stressed the importance of coordinated communication to ensure Cyprus is portrayed as a safe destination.
The meeting also included the UK High Commissioner to Cyprus, Michael Tatham, and the Dhekelia Political Administrator, Maria Kyriakidou – Pieri. All agreed on the need for close cooperation to address challenges and ensure the smooth functioning of the tourism sector.
The Municipality of Ayia Napa continues to work to support the local economy and promote Cyprus as a safe destination.
