Cyprus: Teachers' Union to Meet Education Ministry on Evaluation Plan

Teachers are returning to schools on Monday, while OELMEK (teachers' union) is scheduled to meet with the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Athina Michaelidou, on Tuesday, September 2nd, to discuss the new evaluation plan for teachers and their work.

OELMEK President, Dimitris Taliadoros, stated that they expect the Minister to present her views on the evaluation and submit a proposal.

According to Mr. Taliadoros, Tuesday's meeting will focus exclusively on the issue of evaluation. A meeting had taken place last Thursday, where the Minister informed about the reduction of assistant directors' secondments.

Mr. Taliadoros mentioned that approximately 25% of schools are administratively understaffed and that there is a problem with the transfers of secretarial staff.

He also expressed concerns about the staffing of schools ahead of the start of the school year on September 5th.

Mr. Taliadoros wished students and teachers a good school year.
