Despite initial announcements of restoration, power outages continue in the occupied territories following an explosion at a transformer station in occupied Nikita Morphou.

The "electricity authority" reported that the problematic station was isolated and power was gradually being restored. However, Turkish Cypriot media report instability in the supply, causing problems for businesses and damage to generators. Even the Turkish "embassy" in occupied Nicosia was affected.

The "social insurance department" suspended operations due to the power outage, while water supply problems also arose as pressure pumps were not working.

The "director" of the "authority", Dalman Aydin, stated that power had been restored to a large part of Nicosia and Kyrenia, with efforts continuing in Morphou and Famagusta.

The chairman of the workers' union at the "electricity authority" (El Sen), Ahmet Tugcu, attributed the explosion to poorly maintained air conditioners. The "Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Electrical Engineers" pointed out infrastructure problems and called for urgent action.

The chairman of the Türk-Sen union, Arslan Biciakli, called for the resignation of the "board of directors" of the "electricity authority" and the "government", while the "chamber" and the trade unionist highlighted the lack of investment and maintenance.
