Larnaca in Talks with Universities to Establish Faculties
Share on:

Three Greek universities are in discussions with the Municipality of Larnaca regarding the establishment of faculties in the city. Following the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the National Technical University of Athens, the University of Thessaly has also expressed interest, planning to create a branch in Athienou.

The Municipality of Larnaca faces challenges due to the lack of municipal or public buildings. The amendment of legislation allows the concession of state land for educational purposes, paving the way for the building of the former Oroklini Community Council. The Mayor of Larnaca mentioned that a call for expressions of interest will be announced in the autumn.

The National Technical University of Athens has shown interest in the building of the former Oroklini Community Council. There are problems with the concession of the Multifunctional Social Welfare Center to the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, as the land is forested and the operation of a university is not permitted. Efforts are being made to declassify the specific plot.

Discussions continue between the Municipality and TEPAK for the establishment of the School of Marine Sciences, Technology and Sustainable Development in Mackenzie, which is expected to welcome the first students in September 2028. The TEPAK budget has been approved for 2026.
