The Water Development Department (WDD) assures that ensuring the sufficiency and quality of drinking water is a standing priority, responding to reports of water supply problems in mountainous communities.

In cooperation with Local Authorities and the Geological Survey Department (GSD), permanent interventions are being implemented, such as projects to drill and utilize new boreholes, with the aim of strengthening the resilience of communities amid the ongoing drought and the effects of climate change.

So far, the GSD has drilled and armored 13 successful boreholes, while the WDD has completed 23 borehole utilization projects, with an additional 11 under study. A comprehensive program of projects is also being implemented to address the drought, which includes the installation of mobile desalination units and projects to reduce losses in water supply networks.

The WDD emphasizes that the prudent use of water is crucial and recalls the Stagonometro platform, in collaboration with the «KOIOS» Center of Excellence of the University of Cyprus, for understanding and calculating daily water consumption.
