Cyprus: Water Development Department Prioritizes Water Sufficiency and Quality

The Water Development Department (WDD) assures that ensuring the sufficiency and quality of drinking water is a constant priority. In a statement, the WDD refers to recent publications regarding water supply problems in mountainous communities and emphasizes that it continuously monitors the situation and takes the necessary measures.
In cooperation with local authorities and the Geological Survey Department (GSD), permanent interventions are being implemented, such as projects for drilling and utilizing new boreholes. The aim is to enhance the resilience of communities, especially due to the continuing drought and the effects of climate change.
So far, the GSD has drilled and shielded 13 successful boreholes, while the WDD has completed 23 borehole utilization projects, with 11 additional projects under study. The WDD is implementing a comprehensive program of projects to address drought and enhance water supply throughout Cyprus, which includes the installation of mobile desalination units, projects to reduce losses in water supply networks, and enhancement of water supply in communities.
The WDD reminds that the prudent use of water is crucial and urges citizens to use the Stagonometro platform of the University of Cyprus to understand daily water consumption.
