Forest Department to Take Over Wildfires in Cyprus

The Director of the Forest Department, Savvas Iezekiil, stated that the department is ready to take over responsibility for wildfires. The statement was made on 'Πρωινό Δρομολόγιο' (Morning Itinerary), referring to the Fire Service's decision, after the Arakaπά fire in 2021, to no longer deal with such incidents.

Mr. Iezekiil emphasized that the Forest Department has a comprehensive fire prevention and suppression system and oversees 54% of the Republic of Cyprus.
