Out of 81,000 vehicle recalls for defective TAKATA airbags, approximately 33,000 remain outstanding, according to data provided by the Department of Road Transport (TOM).

As clarified by TOM, the data is updated up to the previous week. The 33,000 include approximately 5,000 immobilized vehicles and another 2,000 scrapped, which reduces the actual number of vehicles that need to be repaired by the deadline in early October.

In addition, another 15,000 vehicles have been identified that need to be recalled for the same problem, with a deadline of eight months from the time the owners were notified. TOM urges owners who have not responded to do so immediately.
