Measles: Three Children Hospitalized in Limassol

A new chain of measles transmission has been identified in Limassol, affecting four children and one adult. According to philenews, one child has been discharged, while three children remain hospitalized: one in the pediatric department of Limassol General Hospital and two at Makario Hospital.
The transmission chain began when a child, hospitalized for another issue, developed a rash. Contact tracing identified an adult as the likely source of transmission.
Measles is a highly contagious viral disease with symptoms including high fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a rash. It can cause complications such as pneumonia or encephalitis.
Transmission occurs through droplets, and MMR vaccination is the most effective prevention method. Two doses are recommended for children, but vaccination is also recommended for adults without immunity.
