Larnaca Awarded 'Green City of Cyprus 2025' Prize

The Municipality of Larnaca has been awarded the 'Green City of Cyprus 2025' Prize at the Pancyprian Green Cities & Green Communities of Cyprus Awards for the project 'Strengthening and Expanding the Institution of Green Beaches' in the 'Green Areas – Urban Biodiversity' category.
The evaluation was conducted by the Scientific Evaluation Committee. With this award, the Municipality of Larnaca joins the Network of Green Cities & Communities of Cyprus for another year, created by the Cyprus Center for Environmental Research and Education (KYKPEE).
The award-winning project concerns the systematic upgrading of the coastal and urban area in the Municipal District of Voroklini through extensive tree planting and green interventions. Over the past nine years, more than 4,500 trees have been planted, of which more than 1,500 in 2025 alone.
These interventions contribute to creating shade, reducing thermal stress, and limiting the area's carbon footprint. Energy upgrade actions and recycling promotion are also being implemented.
The implementation of the actions is based on the close cooperation of the Municipality of Larnaca with competent state bodies. This distinction confirms the commitment of the Municipality of Larnaca to implementing sustainable policies.
