The Minister of Justice, Marios Hartsioitis, acknowledged shortcomings and weaknesses in the evacuation of villages in Limassol during the recent fires. The statements were made from the Operations Coordination Center for extinguishing the fires, following a briefing by the Chief Fire Officer of the Fire Service, Nikos Logginos.

Mr. Hartsioitis thanked the services for dealing with unprecedented phenomena, evacuating 16 villages, limiting damage, and protecting infrastructure. However, he acknowledged that there were shortcomings in the evacuation process.

An investigative team has been established at the Limassol Police Department (ADE Limassol) to investigate the causes of the fire. The Limassol Police Directorate is conducting investigations based on information provided by Mr. Logginos, while an investigation is also underway into the death of two people.
