The Regional Governor of the South Aegean, Giorgos Hatzimarkos, sent a letter to the urban planning consultants of the Cyclades and Dodecanese islands, highlighting the acute housing problem.

In his letter, Mr. Hatzimarkos points out the crisis affecting workers and permanent residents, as well as the disruption of social and economic cohesion due to the lack of housing.

He calls for the utilization of urban planning tools to address the problem immediately, recalling the Region's proposal from 2022 for special regulations and the establishment of social housing areas.

The proposal had been approved by the Regional Council (decision 53/2022) and the Regional Union of Municipalities of the South Aegean (decision 81/2022).

The Regional Governor emphasizes that the problem has evolved into a serious issue and requires an immediate solution.
