Cyprus: Environmental Fine Tripling Expected in 2025

Environmental fines are expected to triple in 2025, according to the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Maria Panayiotou.

In an interview with «Phileleftheros», the Minister stated that the Environmental Control Sector has been staffed with 15 people. From January to July 2025, 137 out-of-court settlements were issued, totaling €325,000. In comparison, 85 fines were issued in 2023, totaling approximately €100,000.

Mrs. Panayiotou spoke about simplifying environmental licensing procedures and strengthening controls. She also mentioned the creation of 50 Green Kiosks throughout Cyprus by early 2026, aimed at enhancing recycling.
