Ministry Expresses Disappointment over Suspension in Western Lemesos

The Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth (ΥΠΑΝ) has expressed its disappointment regarding the suspension of operations by the School Board of Western Lemesos, which affects 25 school units. In a statement, the ΥΠΑΝ denies claims of understaffing, stating that the School Board's budget has increased by 14%, while the amount for maintenance has almost doubled, reaching €250,000 from €132,000.

The ΥΠΑΝ expects the School Board of Western Lemesos to immediately revoke its decision, characterizing this action as blackmail and detrimental to students. According to the Ministry, the School Board has the necessary number of employees, and measures have already been taken to strengthen it. Furthermore, the ΥΠΑΝ denies claims of unsafe building facilities, emphasizing that it follows a specific policy on safety issues.

The ΥΠΑΝ calls on the School Board to re-discuss the immediate and medium-term management of issues, prioritizing the smooth start of the school year.
