The Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth (YPAN) has expressed its disappointment regarding the announcement by the Western Limassol School Board concerning the suspension of its operations, affecting 25 school units.

YPAN emphasizes that the budget of the Western Limassol School Board has increased by 14%, with the amount for maintenance nearly doubling from €132,000 to €250,000.

The Ministry calls on the Western Limassol School Board to immediately revoke its decision, characterizing the action as 'blackmail' and based on 'unsubstantiated claims'.

Regarding the claims of understaffing, YPAN states that the Western Limassol School Board was staffed with 5 employees, according to the criteria. Following an employee's resignation, YPAN made arrangements to reinforce the board with additional hours of a Supervisor.

YPAN points out that the references by the Western Limassol School Board to unsafe building facilities are unfounded and not based on expert studies.

YPAN expects the Western Limassol School Board to engage in discussions for the immediate and medium-term management of issues, for the benefit of students.
