Beach Understaffing: Bathers' Safety Must Be a Priority

Trade unions OEKDY SEK, PASYEK PEO, and DEE KKOKΩ DEOK are warning the Government against decisions that would jeopardize beach safety. The warning concerns the potential staffing of beaches with only one lifeguard.
The issue was raised in the summer of 2025 at the Monitoring and Coordination Committee of the National Beach Safety Plan "SALAMIS", where the need for at least two lifeguards per tower was discussed.
The trade unions emphasize that the safety of human lives must be a priority and will react strongly to any degradation of safety on the beaches.
