The Department of Labour Inspection (ΤΕΕ) has announced a mandatory work stoppage for certain activities due to a red alert for extreme high temperatures issued by the Department of Meteorology.

Specifically, all outdoor heavy and moderate work must be stopped from 11:00 to 17:00, while the transport or delivery of goods by two-wheeled vehicles, bicycles, or electric scooters must be stopped from 12:00 to 16:00. The measure applies to the inland of Cyprus (areas below 300 meters altitude and above 1150 meters).

For areas not under red alert, the Code of Practice for Thermal Stress of Workers applies. Employers must measure temperature and humidity and adjust work accordingly.

Frequent breaks, appropriate clothing, and access to cool water are recommended. Avoid heavy meals and alcohol.

For more information, visit the ΤΕΕ website or contact the District Labour Inspection Offices.
