Cyprus Ministry of Transport Signs Road Safety Assessment Contract

The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works has signed a contract for a road network safety assessment study and training services.
The contract, entitled "Study for the safety assessment of the road network and training services," was signed on September 1, 2025, at the offices of the Department of Public Works.
The project concerns the implementation of the Road Network Safety Assessment Methodology for the main intercity road network of Cyprus, including the national motorway network (road category A) and road category B.
Based on the results of the assessment, targeted road safety inspections will follow to propose improvement measures.
The study adopts the safe system strategy and the concept of a "forgiving" road environment. Training activities for the staff of the Department of Public Works are also planned.
The assessment will be based on a methodology of the European Commission and is a method of identifying black spots on the road network.
The European Union adopted Directive (EU) 2019/1936 on the management of road infrastructure safety, aiming to halve deaths and serious injuries from road collisions by 2030.
The project was awarded after an open tender, with a total cost of €229,000 plus VAT and a duration of twelve months, with a scheduled completion date of the end of August 2026. It is funded by national resources and may be co-financed by the Trans-European Transport Network fund.
