The Council of Ministers has approved financial support of €636,899 to Local Authorities to continue and strengthen separate collection programs for municipal waste for 2024.

According to a statement, the decision aligns with the policy of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment to promote the circular economy, reduce waste, and enhance recycling and home composting.

The support targets Local Authorities already implementing relevant programs and covers expenses for the separate collection of recyclable and organic waste, green waste management, and the implementation of the 'Pay As You Throw' (PAYT) system.

Specifically, €250,000 will be allocated to the Municipality of Aglantzia for the PAYT system, €265,609 to the Municipality of Aradippou for organic waste collection, €30,000 to the Municipality of Polis Chrysochous, €30,000 to the Tamassos Area Community Complex, and €61,290 to the Community Councils of Agia Marina Chrysochous-Gialia and the nine communities in the area.

Funding will be provided directly to the Local Authorities upon submission of the required documentation.
