Agriculture Minister in Peyeia for Irrigation Issues

The Minister of Agriculture met today with banana producers in Peyeia to discuss irrigation issues. The meeting followed previous discussions regarding the water quantities available for their plantations.

Maria Panagiotou had announced the visit, emphasizing that she would present TAY data regarding water overconsumption in some plantations, which exacerbates the problem for producers at higher elevations.

Water Department officials have pointed out that some producers are overconsuming water at the expense of others, while some are using private boreholes in addition to the TAY supply.

All identified distortions were discussed during the meeting. It is recalled that on June 21, producers in western Paphos protested against the reduced water supply, symbolically disrupting traffic in Coral Bay.
