High Microbiological Load in Agios Tychonas – Temporary Problem

A high microbiological load was detected in the bathing waters at Agia Varvara beach in Agios Tychonas, according to the Director of the Department of Environment, Theodoulos Mesimeris.
Mr. Mesimeris estimated that the problem is local and will be resolved soon. The Department of Environment monitors the quality of bathing waters at 130 locations throughout Cyprus.
He advised swimmers to avoid swimming at Agia Varvara beach as a precaution. New samples were taken and results are expected within two days.
Mr. Mesimeris described the phenomenon as 'localized' and expressed optimism for improvement in water quality soon. The public will be informed after the laboratory tests.
