Zakynthos: 53-Year-Old Dies After Accident Involving School Bus

A 53-year-old man has died following a serious traffic accident involving a school bus in Zakynthos. The accident occurred on the Argasiou – Vasilikou road, in the Xirokastello area.

The man, the driver of the car, was seriously injured when his vehicle collided with a school bus. The bus was carrying 7 students, 4 escorts, and the driver. Due to the severity of his condition, he was transported by air ambulance to Ioannina, where he died.

According to initial reports, the 53-year-old's car veered off course, likely due to slippery road conditions, and collided with the school bus. The passengers on the bus are in good health, thanks to the driver's actions, who avoided the worst by steering the vehicle into a ditch.

Firefighters extricated the car driver from the vehicle. At Zakynthos General Hospital, an aortic rupture was diagnosed, and it was deemed necessary to transfer him to a hospital with a specialized thoracic surgeon.
