Fire Damages 8 Ancient Monuments in Limassol Region

The recent fire in the Limassol mountainous region has caused damage to eight ancient monuments, according to the Deputy Minister of Culture, Vasiliki Kassianidou. Ms. Kassianidou will visit the area on Monday with a team from the Department of Antiquities to assess the damage and take measures.
Among the affected monuments are the watermill in the Capsalia area, in Kissousa, the medieval bridge in the Eliomylos area, in Potamiou, as well as ruins of the early Christian period and churches in the Souni-Zanatjia community.
The Deputy Minister of Culture emphasized that 57 other monuments in the area have not been damaged. She also mentioned that the Deputy Ministry is exploring ways to support artists affected by the cancellation of cultural events due to the fire.
Ms. Kassianidou will meet with the community leaders of the area and will consider utilizing a budget for health and culture issues in order to support those affected.
