Ankara: Orders for Abduction of Greek Cypriots
Share on:

According to reports, the abduction of five Greek Cypriots on July 19 was carried out under orders from Ankara, relayed through the Turkish military leadership. This action appears to be linked to retaliation for the prosecution of usurpers of Greek Cypriot properties in the occupied territories.

It seems the occupying side seeks to link their release to the case of **Simon Aykut**, who is being held in Central Prisons, with a possible exchange in the future. The Greek Cypriots are being held on questionable charges, allegedly entering a tourist resort in occupied **Trikomo** "without permission" and accused of espionage.

The occupying leader, **Ersin Tatar**, in a letter to **Antonio Guterres** on June 10, 2025, had referred to the issue of prosecuting usurpers and foreshadowed arrests. Similarly, **Erhan Arıklı** had warned of retaliation.

The **Republic of Cyprus** continues to prosecute usurpers, protecting the rights of its citizens. Measures are being considered to address the new situation, while potential illegal arrests of Greek Cypriots could limit crossings to the occupied territories, causing economic repercussions.

The **United Nations** expresses fears about tensions in the buffer zone and emphasizes the importance of the **UNFICYP** presence. They report systematic violations by the occupying army, altering the military status of the area.
